- HUIIAXE SOCIETY'S AWARDS. At Christchprch on Friday, the court of directors of the Royal llumane Society met, wlien the following cases were considered:—

Case of James Knowles (32 years), for rescuing Michael . Clearkin (45) from drowning at Napier on October 4, 1912. It was decided to grant a certificate. Case of John Robertson (27 years), for rescuing Frank Moore (12 years) from drowning at Greymouth on February 17, 1912. A silver medal was granted. Case of Virgil Edwards, for rescuing Henry Bcrthold (14 years), from drowning at Foxton on September 7. 1012. — Framed certificate, granted. Case of Timothy llerlihy (30 years) for rescuing Daniel Murphy (22 years) from drowning at Waikara on August 7, 1012.—Decided to defer the matter pending receipt of further information. An application was received on behalf of Miss Marjorie Potter Townend, for rescuing Olive ITaynes from drowning in the Oluitu river, .near the White Rock Homestead, on January 3. —Decided to defer consideration pending further evidence.

Case of Te Nga Ole (8 years) for attempting to rescue Wiremu Hani (1Q years) from drowning at Te Paraki on October 25. 1012. —Decided to forward a semi-official letter of commendation. GOLD MEDAL TO SOLOMONS.

An application was received on behalf of Lewis Solomons and Harry M, Hay, both of Sydney, for attempting to rescue Mr. I'uthurst. at Sumner, on December 28. It was stated in the application that Solomons, on hearing that a man was in trouble, cycled along Sumner beach for about 400 yds, plunged into the breakers, and, quite unsupported, svam out a considerable distance, and dived four or five times into a depth of twenty to twenty-four feet of water to find the body, but was unsuccessful. Hay supported him later with a life-line. The application was considered in committee, and it was decided to award a gold medal to Solomons and a silver medal to Hay.

Case of Alexander Barron (II years), for rescuing Edward Dyer (0 years) from a railway accident at New Lynn, on November 19. 1012. —Bronze medal and framed certificate granted. JUMPED IX FRONT OF A TRAIN. Casn of Benjamin Trumper (10 years), for rescuing -T. Brown (38 years) from accident at Tiniaru on March 20, 1012. — The official report mentioned that as the, second express, hound for Christchurch, was coming into Timaru station, a man, who appeared to be under the influence o 1 : liquor, stepped off the platform on to the main fine, and, if it had not heen for the prompt manner in which Porter Trumper jumped on to the main line, rcIgnrdless of his own life, and pulled him | clear of the incoming train, there would I have been a very serious accident, especially if the man had attempted Lo struggle with Trumper. —A bronze medal was awarded.
