From (!iiv Resident R-portrr). COtfCIE'-E PIPS WORKS roSSiKLE DKMAND FROM FARMS. Some months ago, owing to the very hpnvv freight charges and breakages in importing concrete pipes, the .Stratford Countv engineer, with the authority of the Council, circularised the various local .bodies in Tarnnaki. suggesting that they should co-operate in establishing concrete pipe works. The proposal met with tail support. Tt had also another effect. Tt stimulated private enterprise, and presently the local bodies were asked what support they would give to a private concern which was proposed t« hr established in Waitara. Matters hung fire for a time, hut now T am informed hv a gentleman in touch with affairs at WaTtara, that the works are to be established. '■There is going to he a tremendous demand for concrete pipes in Taranaki," said my informant. "Not only do the local bodies require immense quantities. on account of the liberal rainfall and numerous creeks and streams, but there ; will he a big demand from the farmers for making crossings on the farm; that, is. of course, if the pipes can be supplied cheaply enough. Tn the open country it is becoming increasingly difficult to procure suitable timber for bridging streams. You will find that many of these little creeks will be piped and filled, and the plough will go ove? the i top."' "Well." put in another gentleman, m- ] teresteil in the matter, "if pipe-making j can be made to pay away down in the j Wairarapa. where the local demand cannot approximate the demand in a, district like, this, pipe-making works in Waitara should pav handsomely, even at a greatly reduced selling price." THE JERSEY BREED At a meeting of the Stratford branch of the New Zealand Jersey "Breeders' Association on Saturday there were ten members present. Mr. J. D. Healy presiding. Mr. Jo«. Thomas, of Xgaere, was proposed as a member. A series of resolutions passed by the North Taranaki branch were discussed, and it was decided to recommend:— That in iuture. all entries received by ' the secretary shall be acknowledged within one week, and the applicant advised as soon as possible of the registered number granted by the Association. That the council of the Association urge the Government to carry out an economic cow breed test at one of their farms of instruction, six representative cows of each breed to be selected, a record kept of feed, the area of pasture occupied, and a daily record of milk and butter-fat; the test to be for a period of twelve months. That, in future the secretary of the Association send out to every member of the Association on the 31st of March in each year an invitation to enter for regi>tration all his animals then under 12 months of age : and that a further notice he sent a month later to all who have not responded: and that it hn a recommendation to the council that the names of sires and dams of animals in register of merit be recorded in all future volumes. Various suggestions were made for the encouragement of the breeding of purebred Jcrsevs and discouraging the use of grade bulls. Mr. D. Watkin, of Tluiroa. considered that a tax of £1 should he levied upon the vendor of every grade bull sold, and each time the animal is sold: the funds so raised to be paid over to the agricultural association in whose district the vendor resides, for the encouragement of breeding p"digree animals.

"Prnncli P.illy and the Tiidian Maid." which will be screened (r. night at His Majesty's Theatre, Stratford. It depicts love, hatred and adventure in all their varying moods, and is tvpieally Western. Great interest will centre, too. in a film which illus(rai : tin- highlv-interesling art of JujiUi liv two'capable exponents. On the scenic '-'ale of the programme there is much to admire, the subjects ranging frem (lie sublime beauty of Triest Harbor to the gorgeous grandeur of New Oilean.-. Som<> distinctly novel pictures are shown in the shape of musical exercises by the 3rd Dragoon Guards, who execute an amazing series of intricate manoeuvres to the accompaniment of the strains of the regimental band. Pieverting to the dramatic films, there is "A Political Kidnapping." which opens the eves of comparatively innocent Xew Zealand to the fearful tricks of American pnlitirians. The si ore is exciting, and founded on fact. Then "Together." by the Liihin Company, is also a very interesting drama, dealing with ''high society." ' There are several side-split-ting comedies as well.
