THE AUSTRALIAN TEAM. COMPLAINTS Alio IT UMPIRES. By Cable Press Association—Copyright, London, January 15. The Manchester Guardian says it is useless to answer Mavne's complaints against English cricket umpires. If cricketers begin questioning the umpires thev will soon get back to the manners of village green cricket. Maync's criticisms were not cricket. An Australian correspondent of the Pall Mall Gazette regrets the attack ,on English umpires. There had been similar experiences in Australia. It was generally conceded that Bardsley's ,) decision was an error, but it did not , affect the result of the match. The Mayne incident shows what a thoroughly unhappy band tlie team was. It was unfair to saddle the Board of Control with all the responsibility, but its policy had not uplifted Australian j cricket. Not since the notorious team j of 1893 had the Australians' reputation I been at so sorry a standard. 1 SOUTH MELBOURNE v. ASHBURTON.
By Telegraph—Press Association. ABhl3urton > Last Night. The South Melbourne v. Ashburton County match was concluded this evening, and resulted in a draw.
