JAPANESE TRICKERY.
DECEIVING A LABOR UNION. By Telegraph—Press Association. AVellington, Last Night. The Dunedin Star alleges that the Japanese steamer Hakushaki Maru brought to Sydney a cargo of phosphate. Then she proceeded to Newcastle and was challenged with loading coal for New Zealand. The Seamen's Union, realising that this was unfair competition, and injurious to the interests of the union, challenged the boat's agents, and was assured that the coal was required purely for bunker purposes. It is now stated that the Hukiishaki Mant js to-day at Timaru discharging coal consigned to Redpath, of Christcliurch, who is acting as the vessel's agent. The coal i s being taken delivery of by the Government for railway purposes. The Seamen's Union i.s very angry at bein" tricked by the statement made as to the requirements of the coal.
