A STEAMER DELAYED. j By Telegraph—Press Association. j [ Napier, Wednesday, j | When backing out from the Glasgow j wharf last night a mooring hawser was caught 'by the propeller, delaying the departure of the steamer for Auckland. Later a diver was procured, and he released the rope. No damage having been done to the propeller, the steamer got away at 4 a.m. WOOL AND FLAX. Wellington, Wednesday. Wool and flax is arriving in Wellington in unusually large quantities this summer. The number of bales handled during the past four weeks is easily a record. No fewer than 42,215 bales, ' 37,566 of which were wool, came to hand by rail during the four weeks, or 17,753 more than the total for the corresponding period of 1911-1912. ALLEGED ASSAULT. Wellington, Wednesday. Three men, John Condon, Thomas Donovan and William Henry Adams, were committed for trial to-day on a charge of assaulting John Grey and robbing him of money and watches to the value of £2O. It is alleged that defendants, who were unknown to Grey, had drinks with him on Boxing Day and then assaulted and robbed him at Adams' house. A SERIOUS CHARGE. Hastings, Wednesday. James David Clifton was remanded at the Magistrate's Court this morning on a charge of attempting an unnatural offence.
