THE NEW THEOLOGY.
NONCONFORMISTS AND THEATRES. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London. January 10. The Rev. Dr. R. -I. Campbell, the Congregationalist Minister, whose book, "The New Theology," excited much discussion a few years ago, speaking at the City Temple* said it was time the Free Churches recognised their attitude towards theatres. Roman Catholics were greater patrons of the arts than Protestants. The Nonconformists had not recovered from the Puritan blight. The Rev. Frederick Meyer, the Baptist Minister who started the agitation which led to the prohibition of the Johnson-Well:, fight in London, interviewed, said the stage had radically improved, but in view of the decreasing church attendance he did not think it wise to foster a '.ove of pleasure. The time had not arrived for Nonconformists to establish a 'body similar to the Actors' Church Union.
