A large and representative gathering was present at the reception given to the Hon. W. D. Johnson on Saturday. The remarks of the various speakers tended to show that the trend of opinion was in favour of co-operation with the Commonwealth in the defence of the Pacific. The guest of the evening referred to the wonderful progress made througbout the Dominion during the last 20 years in glowing terms, and expressed himself strongly in favour of uniting for Imperial defence.
