THE COAL TRADE.
POSSIBLE DISLOCATION. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Received January 0, 10.20 p.m. Sydney, January 9. An important development that will possi'bly prelude a dislocation of the northern coal trade occurred to-day. A meeting of coal owners resolved to withdraw from the joint conciliation committee which sometimes acted as mediator between employers and' employees. A letter informing the secretary of the Colliery Employees' Federation of this decision points out that when the committee was constituted it was clearly understood that they could not excuse interruptions of trade through the stoppage of individual lodges, whereas during the first eight months of the committee's existence 44 stoppages had occurred, and a number since, ending on Monday in nearly all the Maitland pits being idle. This position the proprietors refuse to tolerate any longer.
