Western Morning News, Irish Times and Glasgow Herald are among the newspapers favoring the abandonment of food taxes. Lord Derby, in postponing a meeting of Lancashire Unionists, stated that an agreement regarding food taxes was in sight.
IMPERIAL PREFERENCE. London. January 8. Lord Ridley, on behalf of the Tariff Reform League, stated that whatever changes in policy the Unionist party and press adopts, the League will continue to advocate a reasonable measure of assistance to British and Irish agriculture, and a really effective Imperial preference.
