Mr. Lau Chu, Consul for China in New Zealand, who is at present in China,' l ias been transerred to .Rangoon. It is rumoured that an effort is being made to form a syndicate for the purpose of puting a motor 'bus and waggon on the road between Manaia and Hawera. Another pioneer has passed away in the person of the late Mr. Thos. Rosa, Cameron, at the ripe age of 70 years, on Saturday last, January 4, at the real* dence of Mr. John R. McDonald, Levin. The death is announced of Mr. William Pai'kerson, a colonist of long standing, who came to Xew Zealand with his father, the late Mr Parkerson, of Christchurch, in the. Cornwall, in 1853. After a few years Mr. Parkerson began sheepfarming in the McKenzie Country, and afterwards in North Canterbury. In 1880 he went to the warmer climate of Poverty Bay, and for the last thirteen ye: l .is he resided at Woodville, where he, passed away on New Year's Eve, in the been transferred to Rangoon. General Godley. accompanied by Mrs, Godlev, arrived in town by the 5.30 p.m. train yesterday from Stratford. He was met at the station by the Mayor (Mr. a W. Browne), Major F. T. Bellringer, Colonel Okey. and Captain S. Eyre-Kenny, and subsequently taken by motor car out. to the Taranaki (New Zealand) Of Wells, Limited's field at Moturon. After being shown over the property he expressed great surprise at the amount of oil flowing from the three bores in operation, and,at the magnitude of the works under construction. In the evening he ieft by the Rarawa for Auckland.
