FURTHER INQUIRY. By Cable—l'rei-s Associations-Copyright. TTobart, January 7. The North Lvcll inquiry has been resumed. Coulter, a draughtsman working in the 850 ft. level, said the alarm of fire was given, but a number of men there took it as a joke. Cox. the underground foreman working in the 850 ft. level, sent four cages' away, and went up in the fifth. Nobodv answered the call, and witness was the last to leave. Eight men were left in No. 20 stope, who declined to follow. One said, "'No. it is as safe as a house here." The smoke was very thick. Witness considered it would have been the same if several exits had existed.
