RECORD OF ITS WORKING. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Saturday. An interesting return has been compiled showing how -the Territorial Defence scheme has worked, and how the provisions of the Act have been observed . tip to Novamber 30 last, in ■the whole of New Zealand, there (have been only 362 refusals to take the oath, and there have been, out of the large army of men enrolled, only llfil absences from drill in both senior cadets and territorials recorded since the Act came into force. For dereliction of duty, 903 territorials and 154 senior cadets have been convicted, and only 68 people have been imprisoned. On May 31; last 61,797 senior cadets and territorials bad registered.
