THE I'LUNKET SHIELD. COLLAPSE OF THE CHALLENGERS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, January 2. The Auckland-Wellington match was resumed to-day in light showery weather and with an easy wicket. Auckland carried their score to 279 in reply to Wellington's 201. llemus hit up 85 in excellent style. Wellington opened very disastrously in the second innings, and when stumps were drawn had scored 11 runs for the loss of five wickets. Oliff, who took all five wickets received a great ovation when returning to the pavilion.
SOUTH MELBOURNE v. CANTERBURY. Christchurch, Last Night. The Canterbury v. ijiouth Melbourne match was resumed t,o?day in fine weather. The visitors continued their innings. Kyle lifted a ball to mid-oil, where Bennett held the catch.—2o9-r-y —39. Pen'tknd, the last man, was bowled by Reese, the innings realising 200. Canterbury, in their second inniigs, fared badly, being all out for 91. Melbourne started badly, but thanks to M'Connack (31) and A. Kenny (52), made the runs required with the loss of seven wickets. WELLINGTON SENIORS v. CANTERBURY. Wellington, January 2. The Wellington senior Wednesday cricket team defeated Canterbury by ten wickets. Canterbury made 58 (M'Farlane 14 being the only double figure scoreer) and 77 (Keane 33, Hincksman 11, M'Farlane 10). In the first inning's M'lntvre took five wickets for 14 and Harris five for '4l, and in the second Harris got eight for 2fi. Wellington knocked up 135 (Harris 30, George 52). Skelton took four wickets for, 29 runs. M'lntyre and Warne then went in. and the former got the necessary run to win off the second ball.
WELLINGTON v. CANTERBURY • JUNIORS. Wellington, January 2, The "Wellin{»ton Wednesday Cricket Association's junior teami defeated Canterbury by eight wickets. The visitors made 112 (Faulkner 29) and Of in the second innings. Wellington made 175 (A. •I. Williamson 00, L. Williamson 30, O'Brien 20).
