ENTERTAINMENTS.

EMPIRE PICTURE PALACE. The current scries of films at the Empire Theatre is an excellent one, and last night it was, greeted with a largai audience. The main feature of the programme was that of "The Charge of the Light Brigade," a story far too well known to need reiteration here. A production of this kind calls for the cream of -things kinematographic. Indeed, when the filin_ comes to a close it is difficult to Ibelieve that the awesome scenes, the glorious charge and the terrible tragedy we have witnessed were riot real, that the charging horsemen and silent gunners were not "real heroes. Surely we heard the thunder of the cavalry, the booming of the guns? ,md yet there were no crude sound effects, and the theatre was dark and silent. Perhaps—who knows?—the spirit of the. old Six Hundred returned, and, creeping for a few priceless moments into the hearts of those who dared to mimic them filled them with the fire of battle and the courage of their forefathers. Who knows? "The Charge" will be screened again this evening in company with a number of other first-class films.

"The LION-TAMER'S REVENGE." big Cines dramatic film, "The Lion-Tamer's Revenge," made a great hit at the Theatre Itoval last night. It was a powerful and highly sensational story in which lions played an important part and caused many a thrill. Love, jealousy and revenge were the ingredients in this splendid drama that were instrumental in its development, the finale being a real sensation that could not fail to thrill. The circus scenes were wonderfully managed. Two distinct .performances were seen, one with the lions, and another where acrobats,, tumblers, horse riders,, etc., appealed' with wonderful effect." The whole picture was excellently photographed and well got-up. The supporting films comprised seveitil excellent American' light dramas, two beautiful scenic subjects depicting the coasts of Istria and'Antonia, respectively, and a quartette of first-class comics. "Broncho Xmas Dinner quite took the audience by storm.
