His many friends in New Zealand will be grieved to hear that Bishop Wyllis. the late Bishop of Wellington, wno resigned his New Zealand charge on account of ill-health, has now-decid-ed to relinquish the Archdeaconry of Wilts for the same reason. Mr. C. If. Burton, present assistantpostmaster at Dunedin, is to be appointed chief postmaster at New Plymouth, and Mr. W. Beswick, assistant-post-master at Christehurch is to be chief postmaster at Paliuerston. North, Mr. Burton was ciiief clerk at'the New Plymouth office 25 or 30 years ago. 31 r. Luscoriibe,'a Devonian, who has recently returned to England from New Zealand, was the pumb.ager of Combe Royal, Knightsbridge. South Devon, a few weeks ago. Bidding for the Elizabethan house and grounds commenced at £(1000, and it was'knocked down to Mr. Luscombe (who is brother to Mr. W. L. Luscombe, of New Plymouth), for £10,750. Mr. "Walter Clarke Buchanan, M.P., who has just received a knighthood, and is at present on his way to' England, on a holiday visit, is a native of Argyllshire where he was born seventy-four years ago. He was educated at the Parish: School, 'fireenock, and emigrated to Melbourne in 1857, where he had six years of station life. He came, to Canterbury in 1863, and settled on a leasehold farm. In 1871 Mr. Buchanan purchased the Tupurupuru station, Wairarapa. His public life is well known. He was first •elected to Parliament for Wairarapa in 1881, and has served on various public bodies, including the Wellington Education Board. Mr, Leonard Stowe, who has been made a C.M.G., succeeded Major Campbell as Clerk of Parliament in 1880. He was born in Buckingham and educated at Iffley and Rugby School under Dr. Goulburn. Mr. StoVe arrived in New Zealand by the ship Lady Alice, settling in Nelson. Ifi 1864 he became clerk to the Marlborough Provincial Council. A year later he was appointed clerk to the Legislative Council, and then became clerk of Parliament.
