DISTRICT NEWS.

RAHOTU. (From Our Own Correspondent). The Wesleyan Sunday School picnic was held on the Sports Ground on Boxing Day, quite a large number of people attending. All seemed.to enjoy themselves, especially the tiny children, who were- playing in the new-mown hay. Many entered for the ladies' race, which •caused great excitement, Mrs. Ncilson proving: victorious, with Mrs. Minnia a good -second. In the gentlemen's race, Mr. Fielder was first and Mr. A. Raynor seuond:-- The- jockey race was amusing to onlookers, although there were several accidents. Mr. Hughson did splendid business with his car. The children never seemed to tire of the threepenny rides. Games were also indulged in by the young people. The refreshment stall was well patronised during the day. We hope to have a fine day for the sports, which take place on New Year's Day. Rain, however, is badly needed in the district. On Saturday afternoon Messrs Phillips Bros, were driving a gig down the Kahui road, when'the-horse took fright and bolted, throwing the occupants out, but they escaped injury. The gig was very badly damaged, though the horse escaped.
