THE HOLIDAYS.
Turanald residents will find no difficulty iu mapping out their plan of campaign for thorough enjoyment of the holiday season, as there is much 10 attract them without the discomfort of travelling far afield. MT. EG MOST. For those who like a quiet ehcnge horn the cares and worries of business, nothing could he hetter than a day or two at the Mountain, whose attractions are too well-known to need re-capitulat-ing, or a trip by MOTOR TO MOKAU. and thence spending a day exploring the beauties of the magnificent river scenery in one of the comfortable river launches. The road to Mokau is now in beautiful order for motoring, and the scenery right along the route is picturesque and ever-changing. THE SEA BEACH. The beach, too, will also attract its votaries. Already numbers of families are camped upon the fine stretch of foroshore, which is one of New Ptymouth's great assets, and it is safe to assert that during the holidays thousands, especially among the email fry. will spend a joyous time in the surf or on the sand. FISHING. Fishing, too, in the numerous trout streams that emanate from Mt. Egmont will undoubtedly give pleasure to many disciples of Izaak Walton. BOWLING AND TENNIS. The various Tennis and Bowling Clubs have arranged matches for the holidays, and it is safe to assert that neither tennis courts nor bowling greens will be left unoccupied for any long space of time, particularly if the fine, weather continues as at present it gives promise of doing.
THE RACES. The Taranaki Jockey Club will bold its summer meeting on Thursday and Friday, and as excellent acceptances have been received there is every indication of there being a most successful meeting. The course is in good order, and training has been actively proceeding for the last fortnight. THE AXEMEN'S. CARNIVAL. It is safe to predict that the Axemen's Carnival at Eltham will draw a big crowd. The champions of the Dominion in sawing and chopping will once again meet in the arena to pit their prowess, and the chips will fly out of the logs in grand style to the rousing accompaniment of the cheers of each man's enthusiastic supporters. ■ OPEN AIR DISPLAY. On Boxing Night a grand open-air spectacular display and picture entertainment will be held in the Recreation Sports Ground in aid of the Garrison Band. Children will be specially interested in the visit of Father Christmas, who will give them all a prize. THE PICTURES. Both the Empire and Royal Picture proprietaries are catering for the holiday public with holiday p.rogr&mmes-, and some of the finest films inthe cine-matographic-world will be submitted for the appreciation of the Tajratiftki .public -at both the" Empire I the Theatre Rrv."\ u '^±gfer^
