New South Wales in their first innings scored 270 (Minnett 39, Barnes 43, Emery'not out 25, and in their second innings 240 (Trumper 11, Moore 48, Folkard 01, Arnott 00, Emery 23). By Tel .'graph -Preps Association. Palmerston North, Last Night. The New South Wales teachers to-day beat the Manawatu teachers at Palmerston by two wickets, one minute before the call of time. The weather was fine, but the wicket slightly dill'icult. Batting first Butterworth opened for the local men with McLean. The former played fine cricket and ran up 91 before being caught on the leg boundary by Walsh. The visitors consider him and Lusk (Canterbury) the two best batsmen* they have met. Bennett 40, Brennand If and Murchte 10 were the other double figure scorers in a total of 18G. Sattler took 2 wickets for 24 runs, Barnes 9 for 40, O'Neill 4 for 57, Freeman 4 for 51. | In the New South Wales innings the partnership of Walsh and Barnes was the feature of the match, aßrnes, with (12 to his credit, skied a ball to square leg and was caught. Smith followed and swiped freely, having five -boundaries in his 29. The remaining wickets fell rapidly and an exciting half hour's contest ensued against time. With 7 runs wanted and six minutes to / play Rogers hit a boundary an dthen succumbed, lb\v next ball. Schrader joined Dunn and sent the winning hit to the boundary one minute from time. Brennand took 1 wicket for 41 runs, Robson 2 for 33, Jannings 0 for 22, Murchio 1 for 29. Bennett 2 for 21, Papps 3 for 21.
SOUTH MELBOURNE v. MARLBOROUGH.
Blenheim, Last Night. The South Melbouhe - Marlborough cricket match was resumed to-day m fine weather on a good wicket. The visitors brought their score to 391 (Kyle 40, MeCormack 29, Purvis 13, Kelly 14, Pentland 0). Marlborough made a poor stand, dnlv making 102 (Webb 14, Horton 15, AVhiteley 12. Martin 9. Whittle 9, Mills 7, Blinks 17 and Reed 7). Kelly took 5 wickets for 28 runs, Kenny 7 for 29, Deers 2 for 20 and Purvis 3 "for 11.
i CHRISTCHTJRCH MATCHES. Christchurch, December 22. Beautiful weather prevailed when the Fourth round of the grade matches was commenced, but soon after 4 o'clock rain fell heavily. Further plav was abandoned. Sydenham, with a first innings lead of 17 over St. Albans, cracked up badly in the second attempt, and were all out for 69. St. Albans had no difficulty in hitting these off, though they had to hurry to go through before raiu stopped play. Riccnrton easily scored a two point win against East Christchurch, whilst at Lancaster Park West Christchurch secured a similar win against Linwood. Scores:—Sydenham 180 and 69 v. St. Albans 163 and 88 for three. East Christchurch 198 and 61 for two v. Riccarton 108. West Christchurch 204 arid 208 (AY. Reese 55) v. Linwood 161 and 64 for one,.
