THE HAWKE'S BAY RAILWAY. J By Telegraph—Press Association. j Dannevirke, Saturday. { Instructions have been issued to the railway authorities in Hawke's Bay 'to suspend the ordinary goods traffic on J Friday and Saturday. This will have a ) serious effect on the Napier wool sale on January 3, as catalogues close at Napier on the 24th instant, and unless special arrangements are made much wool will, he shut out. The position was considered at a special meeting of the Chamber of Commerce this morning, which made a strong protest to the Minister against the Department's action, and asked that all available trucks be diverted to the Hawke's Bay line until I Tuesday, also night trains 'run, as the matter is of vital importance to the farming and commercial community.

The Appeal Court to-day. gave judgment in re Dickens, which was heard 1 on October 17, regarding the question of the ■right of priority of the Public Trustee in the administration of estates of deceased persons. The Court decided that administration be granted to the widow, and that_ the Public Trustee pay the costs of hearing. Mr. Justice Chapman was the dissenting Judge, contending that where the Public Trustee applied, his application must prevail. A CONVICT AT LARGE. Wellington, Saturday. An escaped prisoner named Peter Young was found wandering near the fruit market this morning, and was handed over to the gaol authorities. DEATH DUTIES. Wellington, Saturday. Judgment was delivered by the "Appeal Court in the case of the Commissioner of Stamps v. Finch. The Court dismissed the appeal with costs on the lowest scale as from a distance, holding that the value of the gift was under £IOOO, and further, that there was no beneiit or advantage reserved to the donor, and that the'gift was not therefore liable to gift duty under the Death Dut'es Acts of 1009 and 1911.
