PETROLEUM.
TARAXAKI (N.Z.) OIL WILLS, LTD. Hard formation was met with last week at Bell Block on the Taranakl Oil Wells, Ltd's. property, in the sinking of No. 1 well, which is now down to a depth of 475 ft., with the Bin casing down to the bottom of the bore'. Indications are not wanting that better country is being encountered. The No 2 bore is down to a depth of 350 ft., progress being most satisfactory. No. 5 bore at Moturoa displayed unusual activity towards the end of the week, and with the projected sandpumping and deepening this week, increased pressure of gas and a greater volume of oil should result. Some 450 tons additional of the; refinery plant arrived during the week, Work in connection with the refinery; will be suspended for the holidays from December 24 to January 2.
