FIRES.
CLAREVLLLE STORE BURNED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Carterton, Wednesday. A fire at Clareville last night destroyed S. A. Pull's store, granary and residence, and the local Post Office. Nothing was saved. The lire commenced in the shop. llow it originated is unknown. The occupants escaped only in night attire by a ladder, down which they descended and which took lire before they reached the ground. The insurances, in the State Office, were:—On store £6OO, granary £IOO, stock in granarv £l5O, and in the South British Office the stock was insured for £7OO and the Post Office and contents for £IOO. FIRE AT WAVERLEY. Tiie premises in Main street, Waverley, owned by Mr. Blake, and occupied by Mr. Jacobsieji, tinsmith, were totally destroyed by lire at 1 o'clock on Tuesday morning. The same premises became mysteriously ignited about a month ago, but on that occasion the fire was subdued. The cause of the present (ire is a mystery. The premises were left at 7.20 p.m. on Monday, everything being then apparently safe'. Mr. Jacobsen's insurance on stock and tools is £2OO, but Mr. Blake suffers a total loss, the building being uninsured.
