MT. LYELL MINE.

FURTHER EVIDENCE. Bj Cable—Pres3 Association —Copyright. Hobart, December 18. At the enquiry, Mr. Murray, engineer at the Lyell mines, gave evidence that it was not true to say that the other ■ways of getting out of the North Lyell mine than by the main shaft were Iblocked. The shift-bosses had instructions that the safety of the men was always the initial consideration. The men had a grievance discussed by their committee, but there never were any complaints made. Mr. Curtain, inspector of mines. Vicposed that he visited the mine three days before the disaster. He travelled by the passes and stopes to the 1000 ft. level, without using the main shaft. The men could have used them if the fumes had not overcome them. Three miners declared that they tried, but found the passes blocked.
