MR. ALLEN INTERVIEWED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, December 18. Mr. Allen, interviewed, expressed the opinion that New Zealand-, Canada and Australia will join hands some day for the defence of the Pacific. It was too much to ask the Mother Country to do it. That is our duty. During Mr. Allen's "visit to v Melbourne he will attend- a meeting of the Defence Council, at Mr. Pearce's invitation. CANADA'S OFFER MODIFIED. Ottawa, December 17. The Free Press states that Mr. Borden will probably modify his naval programme in -the direction of adopting part of Sir Wilfrid Laurier's definite fleet unit policy.
MR. ALLEN'S TOUR. Received 19, 12.5 a.m. Melbourne, December IS. Defence circles display keen interest in Mr. Allen's visit. It is considered certain that the Admiralty's advice to New Zealand will be to join Australia in the Australian navy. Mr. Allen will arrive and be given an official reception on Saturday. He will be entertained at a I Government luncheon on' Monday.
