LAND AGENTS' BILL.
AX .INTERESTING POSITION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Pahiatua, Last Night. An interesting position lias arisen locally regarding "the registration oi land agents under the Act passed last session. The Act comes into force on January 1, and a number of land agents applied to the local court to be registered under it, but no bonds have been given, as the forms being prepared by the Justice Department have not yet come tb hand. When the question was raised in the local court to-day the Magistrate, Mr. L. Reid, said tha't as the Act did not come into force until January 1 lie failed to see what jurisdiction tiie court had. He thought it very improbable that the Department would prosecute if the agent was not registered by January 2. lie pointed out that there was apparently no provision for taking applications for registration before January 1. The roll of registered agents was made up to January 15. lie thought a mistake had been made in fixing it at that date for the first year, and thought it would have been' better if the date had been made, say. February 1"). Local lawyers emphasised the importance of the matter on behalf of local land agents. At the magistrate's suggestion, application will be made for registration at the first available court, probably at Masterton, after the holidays.
