The strike loss to (he Northern coal and shipping trades is estimated at a million pounds. TRADE UNION DISBURSEMENTS. London, December 10. The hundred principal trades unions of the United Kingdom, whose membership in 1911 was 1,816,500, income £2,936,700, and expenditure £'2,502,000, have disbursed £22,946,000 during the ipast ten years in strike pay, unemployment, and sick benefits. TELEGRAPHISTS' STRIKE DEFERRED. Sydney, December 17. Though a large majority is in favor of a strike, the telegraphists have decided not to act precipitately and to give the new schedule a fair trial before resorting to the extreme step. APPEAL TO MR. FISHER. Sydney. December 17. The Council of the Post and Telegraph Association is seeking Mr. Fisher's intervention with the view of a compulsory conference and a return to the •Id schedule. ASIATIC LABOR. Received 17, 9.25 p.m. Newcastle, December 17. The Japanese tramp Hakashi Kamaru arrived this morning from Sydney, en route to New Zealand, with timber and genera] cargo. While preparing to load hardwood for New Zealand, intimation was received from the New Zealand Seamen's Union that they would refuse to handle her cargo, owing to her possessing an Asiatic crew. The loading was therefore stopped.
