MR. WHITELAW REID. By Cable —Press Association —Copyright. Received 16, 5.5 p.m. London, December 16. The, death is announced of Mr. Whitelaw Reid, United States Ambassador to Bngland. The King cabled to President Taft deploring Mr. Whitelaw Reid's death, whom he mourned as an old friend. The newspapers pay warm tributes to Mr. Reid. - Mr. Whitelaw Reid, the United States Ambassador to England, has had a long and honorable career. He was editor-in-chief of the New York Tribune since 1572, except such time as he was engaged in the public service, and during a varied career he has been successively journalist, war correspondent, cotton planter, politician and diplomatist. In 1902 he stood in the Republican'interest for the American Presidency. He was regarded as one of the most polished orators in the United States.
