NEW PLYMOUTH SOCIAL NEWS. Concert.—Last Wednesday evening, in the Good Templar Hall, Misses Smith and Pike's pupils held their annual concert, which gave much pleasure to all those present, especially the musical items rendered by the junior pupil-;, whose performance lacked all nervousness and restraint, so enabling them to enter into everything with great enjoyment ami naturalism. Amongst the audience I noticed Miss Laing, Miss Henly, Mrs. Baker. Miss Kyngdon. Mrs. V. Mack-ay, Mrs. T. Avery, Miss Avery, Mrs. Gilniour. Mrs. F. Watson, Miss Watson, Miss Bedford, Miss Ward, Mrs. Hiirle, Mrs. A. MacDiarmid, Mrs. Thomson. Misses Thomson, Mrs. Martin, Mrs. A. Thomson. Mrs. Roy, Misses Roy, Mrs. ■ lenkinson, Mrs. F. Tennis.—The annual match between Waverley and New Plymouth Tennis Clubs was played last Thursday on the latter club's green. The weather was ideal, and the match proved most enjoyable. Horticultural Show.—Great to the delimit of the exhibitors and the Society the annual spring show was endowed with beautiful weather this year. The Show was held in the Coronation Hall, which is a very spacious one, but rather out of the way, especially to the West Endevs, and on account of the distant ' many refused to enter exhibits, particularly in the cooking classes. And who I will blame them? To my mind, it would need the nature of an angel from | heaven to carry a plate of tarts or a jar of preserves over a mile in a hot, I glaring sun, and then perhaps only to get '"Ilc" after your name as a result. Next year 'buses for the competitors and the public should be arranged for. Amongst those present I noticed: Mrs. T. C. List, Mrs. Rollo, Mrs. Sykcs, Miss Perrv. Mrs. R. George, Mrs. G.
