CONVENT AT PAHIATUA.

THE OPENING CEREMONY. By Tetegraph—Press Association. Pahiatua, Monday. The new convent was opened yesterday afternoon by Dean O'Shea." .vicargeneral and iulministrator of the Archdiocese of Wellington. There was a ■large gathering of the public and many visiting priests. The building is for the use of the Brigidine Sisters, a teaching order. The collection amounted to £IOO. The building cost £I4OO. Father T. McKenna, parish priest, was highly complimentcd on the reAilt of his efforts. Referring to religious education, Dean O'Shea declared that the foundation of all true moral training was religious education. He declared that so long* as the present system was recognised, Soman Catholics'were prepared to build their own schools and make any sacrifices for their faith, a faith which they had received as a priceless heritage from their forefathers. The speaker alluded to the Biblc-in-Rchools League, which he said was a very powerful and active body, whose aim' was to introduce a Bible into the State schools. It would only be another form of .sectarianism at the public expense, towards which Soman Catholics would have to pay. and it would give a form of religion which would be obnoxious, to them.
