DAIRY CATTLE.
CANADIAN IMPORTATIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. When Mr. Singleton, assistant Dairy Commissioner, visited, Canada a few months ago he was commissioned by the Government to secure some new blood for diffusion amongst the State Holstein Dairy cattle. Mr. Singleton is a firstclass judge of the kind of cattle that the dairymen of this country require, and in addition is a strong advocate of utility rather than show cattle. He could, therefore, be depended upon to select none that did not conform to the proper type and standard of proficiency. In making his selection, Mr. Singleton covered a wide area, and visited all the best studs in America. Each of the five animals selected has a performance pedigree and a milk or butter-fat record backing it. These cattle arrived at Wellington yesterday by the Tnverie, and after going for a term in quarantine will be drafted into the State Holstein herd at. Wcraroa. The same vessel brought five other Holsteins. which are consigned to the Cluney farm, at Plimmerton.
