On the occasion of his leaving Inglcwood for Auckland, Mr. S. M. Pratt was presented by his Inglewood friends with a case of pipes and match box. It is understood that the new Governor, Lord Liverpool, with Ladv Liverpool, will arrive at Auckland 'l.v the Malwa on the 18th inst. Miss Strack, of Hawera, has received an appointment as assistant domestic science instructress at the Dunedin University. She will commence her new duties on January 0.

Aii exchange reports that Mr. 11. L. Cook, • formerly of New Plymouth, mid recently associate to his Honor the Chief Justice, Sir Robert Stout, has joined the firm of Young ami Tripe, of Wellington.

Mr. Frank Ucatoii, M.A., JB.Sc., has been appoints! headmaster o£ the Napier Boys' High School in niiwesioii 10 Mr. A. L. J'olson. who resigned to take the headmastcrship of the secondary school in Ballarat, A'ictoria. Mr. Heato'n lias, for the Tast six years, been on the staff of the Auckland Grammar School.

Mr. A. A. Hintn. formerly h'r.st assistant at Tcmuka District High School, and at present Director of Technical Education at Nelson, has been advised by cablegram of his appointment to the staff of the Education Department, Singapore, Straits Settlements. He will leave Sydney for the East at the end of December. Mr. Jlintz is well-known in South Taranaki.

The death occurred on Sunday of Mr. William Edwards, a resident of Orovdon Bush, South Canterbury, for the laet 31 years, and a colonist of CO years standing. Deceased was 89 years old. He arrived in Auckland in 1841. Early in the sixties he took part in the Otago goldfields rush, and subsequently went to the Gore district. He leaves a widow, four sons, and four daughters.
