A PRESBYTERIAN' PROTEST.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Saturday. The Kirk session of St. Johns' has sent a letter to the Hon. James Allen, Minister of Defence, strongly protesting against the parade at Trcntham last Sunday, when military evolutions, including target firing, were conducted.
BRIQUETTE WORKS DISMANTLED. Westport, Saturday. The State briquette works at Westport are being dismantled. The boilers will go to Runanga State Mine, the briquetting plant stored at Westport, and the buildings sold for removal. The tease of the site has expired and the site is required for railwav purposes.
WANGANUI HARBOR. Wanganui, Saturday. The report presented to the Harbor Board last evening showed that the bar continued to maintain an increased minimum depth of 22ft (iin, and the board adopted the recommendation of the engineer, Mr. Ilowarth, to dredge the river channel to give an additional Bit, so as to admit larsrer vessels to the town wharves. The .board also granted Hie engineer, in recognition of his valuable services, six months' holiday on full pay, to enable him to visit the'principal harbors of the Old World
ISLAND FRUIT. Wellington, Saturday. In the Rarotongan fruit case it was agreed that the only point for the jury should be the amount of damage suffered by plaintiff. DISAPPEARANCE OF YOT7XG MAN. Dunedin, Saturday. A young man employed in one of'the local Government officer;, and well known in hockey circles, has I>een missing since Tuesday. An examination of the hooka under his charge revealed discrepancies. Tiie amount of money involved is not large.
