The purveyors of "dead meat" in the way of horseflesh (at Home) have been very busy lately in "dressing their shop window." i.e,, quoting prices—and short of that—against many "impossible" horses in so-called future-event betting. Backers would do far better to follow their own fancies than to take the slightest notice of "London betting" prices now. It is the cxicption rather than the rule for the majority of owners these days to show their hands until the last moment.—English Exchange. Though it is impossible to obtain the actual figures of the number of people present at Doneaster during the first three days of the meeting, a prominent member of the Race Committee remarked: "You may take it from me that the attendance reach ?d owr a quarter of a million."

In the English Racing Calendar published on October 3 it is announced that the. stewards of i.hc Jockey Club, having received complaints that the presence of the horse Vigilance at the starting pest constitutes a danger to other horses and jockeys owing to his savage propensities, have giv C n instructions (hat this horse shall not be allowed to take part in any event under the Rules of Racing. Many American owners of racehorses are turning their attention to racing in Canada, and there is much activity in the Dominion just now over racing matters. The addition of the course at Ottawa, and probably a -lew track at King Edward Park, Montreal, next spring, will make the Canadian circuit much sought after in the year 1913. The dangerous half-mile courses are gradually dying out, and comparatively little attention is paid to them now,' hut it is still too easy to obtain a license to race on any sort of track. The Canadians will in the near future furnish homebred animals that will- take the country into her proper position in the racing world, progress that was certainly demonstrated in° the season just closed. The Canadian raciimseason just concluded has been, without exception, the most successful ever known in the Canadian circuit, and ren-1 dered the more satisfactory bv the fact that Canadian owners carried off the best of the prizes. The stable of John w. hnorr closed the season far in advance of other owners, the greatest portion being due to Star, Charter, and Frogleys. The first-named was voted the < best horse in training, while Fro<devs| easily proved liimself the best three-year-old. Quite a lot was thought eariv in I the season of Calgary, owned' bv John W ' Schorr, hut poor form later put a damper I on the intentions of his -owner to M, him take his chance in the Enslish Derbv next year.
