OREGON PINE.
BIG SHIPMENT FOR NEW MOUTH. With commendable enterprise Messrs. Webster Bros, have arranged for the shipment of a full cargo of Oregon pine direct from Seattle to New Plymouth. Word was received yesterday that the vessel, a schooner named the H.D. Ben Dixsen, had sailed on the 21st November. It should arrive here towards the end of January. We understand that nearly the whole of the cargo, which consists of 750,000 feet of timber, has already been disposed of.
The timber can be landed here as cheaply as at any port in the Dominion, and therefore local firms handling it are able to compete successfully with firms in the largo centres. As a matter of fact, they should be in a better position, as the port charges are lighter in New Plymouth than at most of the other place's. Messrs. Webster Bros, are to be heartily congratulated upon their enterprise, the success of which is assured, and for pioneering, a service that must be of material benefit to the district and serve as a convincing advertisement for the harbor-
