SEAMEN'S UNIONS.
FORMING GREAT COMBINE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, December 5. The Herald .announces that the Federated Seamen's Union of Australasia is about to absorb the New Zealand Seamen's Union. Under the amalgamation the funds will be pooled and the entire service be worked as one great organisation.
PREMATURE STATEMENT.)
Auckland, Thursday
The secretary of the Auckland branch of the Seamen's Union states that the announcement; of the amalgamation of Australia and New Zealand is premature. The conference of Australia and New Zealand to consider the question will not be held until March. _ The Auckland branch was not enthusiastic, inasmuch as it is proposed that New Zealand centres should become sabbranches and the finances pooled. The branch had passed a resolution strongly to oppose any move in this direction; it also resolved to advise New Zealand delegates to act carefully in view of New Zealand having preference to unionists, which was not included in the Australian award.
