Trouble is brewing among the butchers' shopmen, who are incensed at the shelving of the Early Closing Bill. It was decided last May to refuse to work after six o'clock on Saturday nights, but the Government's promise to introduce a Bill settled the dispute on that occasion.
RIOTING IX CANADA. Received 5, 10.30 p.m. Ottawa. December 5. Serious rioting lias occurred on the Porcupine, gold fields. Detectives fired into the crowd, and fatally injured a man.
The strikers attacked a train carrying strike-breakers. Additional police have •been despatched.
