AN INCREASE IN PAY. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, December 4.

Mr. Churchill announces an immediate increase~Tn pay, after six years' service, to able-bodied seamen, first-class stokers, privates and marines, of 3d daily, and petty officers and non-commissioned marines of'4d daily, each winner of a conduct badge Id daily, and corresponding increases to higher ranks. The total cost of the increases will be £808,473 annually.

Lieutenants' pay has been increased Is 2d a day, commanders' half pay increased Is a day, and captains' half pay increased 3s 6d a day. Sea-going command money for commanders has been increased from 3s 9d to ss. All ratings receive a free kit on joining the service.

GIFTS OF WARSHIPS. London, December 5.. In the House of Commons Mr. Molteno asked whether before the gifts of warships were accepted, the House of Commons would be allowed to debate the obligations imposed on the people of Britain b.y their acceptance. Mr. Asquith said that the House of Commons could discuss the gifts during the Naval Estimates, and added that he had no information from India.
