SIR GEORGE REID.
HIS VISIT TO AMERICA. By Cable—Pi-jss Association—Copyright. Received 4, 10.5 jj.m. Melbourne, December 4. Sir Geo. Reid, reporting on his visit to the United States, says that the Americans are fast approaching a stage when our producers will be able to deal with them. A downward revision of their tariff should help Australian trade. The cost of living had become a keen anxiety, a grievance which should help our primary industries. It would be impossible to secure for Australia more desirable immigrants than the farmers emigrating to Canada from the United States in ever increasing numbers. He recommends earnestly the establishment of Australian agencies in New York, Chicago and San Francisco.
