HIGH SCHOOL BOYS.

ANNUAL GYMNASTIC COMPETITIONS. The annual gymnastic display and competitions in connection with the High School were successfully got off last evening under the direction of the physical director, Mr. W. Liuts. A number of parents and friends were in> attendance vnd the work of the young gymnasts was of a very high order. The boys were completely at home in, the orthodox exercises, and in the more difficult and intricate work they displayed a skill and polish considerably in advance of their years. The events were keenly contested; and in somo of them there was but little to pick and choose between the competitors. The boys were handicapped somewhat on) account o! "stage fright," but otherwise they went through a heavy programme without a hitch. Many of them stripped splendidly, 'being possessed of very,good muscular development. The whole exhibition reflected considerable credit on the instructor, Mr. Lints, and judged by the frequent applause the parents were wellsalisfied with the progress of their boys in the sphere nf gymnastics. The competitors were divided into two sections, senior and junior. The senior cup was annexed by Ewing, and the junior cup by Sykes. Medals went to the winner of each event. The awards were as follow, only the three highest-placed boys being mentioned in each event:— SENIORS. Roman Rings.—Hooker, 69 points, 1; Ewing, 02, 2; Chong, 59, 3. Parallel Bars.—Ewing. (ifi ; 1; Hooker, 00., 2; Chong. 40, 3. Horizontal Bar.—Ewing, 101. 1; Hooker, 99, 2; Chong, 81, 3. Ladder. —Chong, 45, 1; Ewing, 44, 2; Hooker, 42. 3. Military Horse.—Ewing, 80. 1; Hooker, 78, 2; Chong, 04, 3.. ' Grand Total.—Ewing. 353: Hooker, 318; Chong, 298. JUNIORS. Roman Rings—.Jones, 57, 1: Sykes, 54, 2; Stanton, 42, 3. Parallel Bars.—Jones, 45. 1; Syltes, 39, 2; Stanton. 33, 3. * Horizontal Bar. —Sykes, 82, 1; Jones, 70, 2; Stanton, 70, 3. Ladder.—Stanton, 33. 1; Sykes and Jones tie for second with 31 points each. Military TTniw. —Sykes. 01. 1; Jones and Stanton tie for second with 55 points each. Grand Total.—Svkes, 267: Jones. 264; Stanton, 233. At the conclusion of the performance Mr. Lints in a few remarks referred to the progress of the boys since last venr, and expressed the hope that next year the competitions would take place in a proper gymnasium.
