LAWN TENNIS.
On the Fitzroy greens the combined American handicap competition is well under way. The following are some of the results:-—Miss Jackson and Lints (owe 10), won 1, lost 2: Miss West and Smith (owe 5), 3 and 1; Miss Arthur and Ambury, senr. (scr.), 5 and 1; Miss Ford and Loveridge (8), 2 and 3; Miss Crocker and Jackson (scr.), 2 and o; Miss Brookes and Broome (8), 1 and 2; Miss Andrews and H. Sole (20), 2 and 1; Miss Sole and E. Armstrong (15), 4 and 2.
It was news to hear from South Africa that a German team of tennis players was likely to visit Australia this year. Yet the Transvaal Lawn Tennis Association instructed its representative, Mr. Kitson, who was in England, to endeavor to arrange for the German team to visit Australia this year, breaking its journey at Capetown or Durban and playing some matches. Of course, New Zealand does not hear all that goes on, as far as teams coming to Australia are concerned, and the sooner the time comes for cutting the painter with the Australasian Association the better, for a great many reasons.
