A Duni'ilin telegram announces the death of Mr. & Reeves, a member of the .Uepresentation Committee. Miss Smith, M.A., of the Temuka District High School, has accepted an appointment on the teaching staff of Fitchett's Ladies' College, Melbourne, At Wesley Church, Hawera, 011 Wednesday afternoon, Miss Ella Barraclou°t, daughter of Mr. L. S. Barraclough, alad Mr. .Tolhn Wesley Griffin, son of the Rev. Mr. Griffin, of Opunake, were united m wedlock. Mr. J. W. Poynton, Secretary of the Treasury, informed a Times representative that he was feeling much better in general health than for a long time. He had received a very satisfactory report from hie medical adviser. According to the latest information, the Earl and Countess of Liverpool, accompanied by Miss Foljanibe and Liuotant Eastwood, A.D.C., will arrive in Auckland by the P. And 0. Company's steamer JJahva on December 18. Prior to the departure of Lance-Sergt. Cosbrooke to take up a position with the Permanent Artillery in Wellington, the officers and n.c.o.'s of B Company presented him with a case of military brushes in remembrance and recognition of past services With the Company.
Mr. 11. M. Woodward, for some years relieving otricer of the Bank of Xew" Zealand, has been appointed manager of the bank's Groymouth branch, and will enter upon his duties about December 10th. Mr. A. L. Hempton, who has been in temporary charge for about seven months, will resume permanent charge of the branch at Whangarei.
The Rev. Ramcka Ilaumai, native minister of the Ohurch of England Mission to Maoris, died at Tauranga on Thursday, aged sixty-five years. He was educated at the Maori College, Gisborne, and was ordained in 1895. He went to Tauranga in 1000. Deceased took part in the Maori War, on the Government side. Pneumonia was the cause of death .
The Governor and Lady Islington were publicly farewelled at the Town Hall in Auckland by a large and enthusiastic gathering Last night. Among those present was the Prime Minister. 'lVo addresses were presented to the Governor, one from the citizens and one from the farming community in the Auckland province. Great enthusiasm was displayed.
A post-card received last week by Mr. Alfred Hill, Sydney, from Miss Rosina Buckinann, who, singing with Mr. John McCormack in a concert tour of Ireland, was in Belfast when the mail left, contains the interesting news that Mr. Hill's songs "Waiata Poi" and "Waiata Maori" have been included in tihe programmes, and have proved a great success, being received enthusiastically by crowded houses.
The Hon. Jas. Allen spent yesterday in Christchurch, visiting several institutions under the control of the Education Department. In the evening he left tor Burnham, and will go south by the second express to-morrow. The Minister will be the guest of his constituents at Tuapeka at a banquet on Wednesday evening, and Kaitangata will be visited on Thursday. Mr. Allen will attend a ■banquet at Lawrence on Friday night. The banquet will be an important function, for, in addition to Mr. Allen, the gathering will be attended by the Prime Minister (Hon. W. P. Masscv) and several other Cabinet Ministers. On his return to Wellington Mr. Allen will pass through Christchurch on Tuesday week, but he will not break his journey there. On the following Fridav Mr. Allen, accompanied by Mr. Matthews, will leave for Wellington for Sydney, joining the Orama at Melbourne for London.
