NEW PLYMOUTH v. WAfTARA.

New Plymouth easily defeated Waitara on the Recreation Ground yesterday afternoon. The visitors batted first, and compiled 58 runs in about an hour and a quarter. Thirty-three of thesa were obtained by James, who set an example to the rest of the team by running between the wickets well. The bowling was too much for the remainder of the eleven, all of whom, with the exception of Purdie (who was 1.b.w.) being clean-bowled. Whittle was the chief destructive agent, securing the excellent average of three wickets for 1 run. Robson, also got 2 for 0. Anticipating an easy win, New Plymouth sent the tail in first, with the result that six wickets had fallen before Waitara's tally was passed. After that it was a picnic, five of the six men last to bat running into double figures, while the sixth (Weston) carried his bat for seven. The wicket was Eair, and the fielding nothing very stirring. Scores:—

INGLEWOOD A v. HIGH SCHOOL. lnglewood A had a field day on the Higli School grounds in their match against the school boys, being at the wickets for the whole afternoon. The match did not commence till 3 o'clock, and High School did not have time to bat. Tt was a "slashingly" good scoring wicket, being very 'fast. The pitch, in fact, was right after a batsman's heart, and by the time their last wicket had fallen lnglewood had 230 runs to their credit. The fielding of the. boys showed an advance on previous form, but the catching was not quite up to the standard, although some good catches were taken, lnglewood gave several chances.! Scores:—
