Mr. Tudor says he has definite information that the American Beef Trust is starting operations in Australia almost immediately. Enquiries have continued the statement that the Trust lias obtained a site on the Brisbane river. The official view j* that the Trust wiil be able to work in with the inter-State shipping companies, but not under such favorable conditions as in America. THE COST OF GIVING. Melbourne, November 27. In the -vrbiLration Court, figures were presented by the Commonwealth statistician, showing a comparison of the cost of living in Australian cities. Melbourne was taken as the basis, at 1000 units. A question was asked in the Assembly whether it was intended to borrow £1,500.000 to complete the £8,000,000 loan of which only half had been recently secured. Mr. Caim replied in the affirmative.
