Mr. Gavin Hamilton, private secretarv to the Governor-designate, is a son of the late Sir Robert Hamilton, K.C.U.. who from ISB7 to ISO2 was Governor of Tasmania.
llr. James .Moore, late missioner to the Missions to Seamen in Wellington, who went Home owing to a breakdown in health, has now recovered, and is at present in eharge of the Missions to Seamen at Newport, South Wales. On Saturday the Rev. Dean McKenna completed his twenty-five years as parish priest of Masterton, having arrived in the town on November 23, 1887. The parishioners of the district are celebrating the event by giving a grand compliment" ary concert in the Town Hall on Wednesday, November 27. Sir Joseph Ward was entertained bv friends at the Bluff on Saturday night. as a farewell prior to his departure on a trip to England. Sir J. G. Ward, Ladv Ward, Miss Eileen Ward and Master Pat Ward left the Bluff yesterday for Melbourne, where they will join the Moldavia. The party were enthusiastically furewellert and cheered bv a large crowd on the wharf. ' /•

Sim has a bright and expressive soprano voice of good and pure quality. The Mimi song suited her, and she gave it with delightful character, suggesting that she would make a very good .Mimi on the oporatie stage. And, matinee atmosphere though it was, she, at all events, got her temperamental expression home to the audience." Other concerts were to be given in the Trish capital. Mr. Thorp Bates makes a third in the list of singers.
