WORK AND WAGES.
THE REEFTON STRIKE.
By Telegraph—Press Association,
Recfton, Last Night, The agreements between the Miners' Union and the Consolidated Gold Fields and other mines have been registered under the Arbitration Act. The matter of replacing the- men at the works is proceeding slowly. Several contracts have been let, and men are at work, but owing to the stoppage of strike pay and many men not getting contracts, some are feeling the very tight pinch. Arrangements re the contracts are proceeding fairly well, but naturally some dissatisfaction exists in the ranks of the unsuccessful tenderers. A meeting of the Miners' Union was held to-day, and some plan to stoop the undercutting of prices was devised. Men pouring in from all sides, cxpi-cting immediate work, are disappointed, and have waited till the contracts are out. Meantime there is not an empty house in Reefton. Men are again going out to the Progress mines after nearly a year's stagnation there.
