The trial of Wells has begun at Etampes. Counsel explained the system J>y which Wells broke the bank at Monte Carlo ten times, winning £BO,OOO in 1891. He also won £7OOO last year. Received 24, 5.5 p.m. Paris, November 23.
Wells has been sentenced to five years', and Jean Burns, his mistress, to thirteen months' imprisonment.
