Some idea of the magnitude of operations in connection with the erection of the refinery at Moturoa may be gleaned from the fact that the work of rivetting the tanks, which is now in hand, will not be completed until the pneumatic rivetting machines have driven 220,000 rivets. The foundations for the refiiicrv have now been laid, and a start will shortly lie made with the brickwork of the new building. The new rotary drilling plant is practically ready for a commencement of drilling operations a few days hence, and a tender has been accepted for the erection of a new derrick at No. 5 bore to replace the one destroyed by fire some months ago. Good progress is being made with the drilling at No. 1 bore. Eel] Block, the boulder country having been'passed through. The bore is now down to a dcptlTof 300 feet. The drilling at No. 2 bore is still in boulder country. The second shipment of the refinery plant is due at Wellington on December 5.
