CENTRAL SCHOOL CARNIVAL.
> The poster and fancy dress procession in connection with the Central School Carnival on Thursday was quite the best of its kind yet staged in New Plymouth. Its general arrangement and the novelty of many of the costumes, and the tradesmen's displays, spoke well for the work , and ingenuity of the organisers and all concerned. A large crowd turned out to view the processions, prominent, in which was Messrs. Cook and L'ster's display. | This lirm utilised an express to represent a saddler's shop, two or three of the ' staff being shown at work. Mr. R. Dnare, [ of the Hoot Arcade, was represented by , a distinctly novel and attractive exhibit, having converted s motor-car into a ir.an-o'-war, with guns sind all, not forgetting the man at the helm, and his crew of neatly dressed sailor bQys. Comedy was provided by Ambury Bros.' "horse," its antics bein/g particularly diverting. Then there was the veritable bellringing turn-out by Bellringer Bros. Then there was the monkey on horseback, representing Monkey Brand Soap. Among other tradesmen who were repre--1 sented by very creditable exhibits were: Mr. R. Cock, _ef the Piccadilly Dining Rooms, the City Fruit and Flower Com--1 pany, Johnston Bros., Stephens and > I Byrne, Singer Sewing Machine Company ; j and Mr. Forbes (representing the J A.M.P.). The poster section drew a versatile number of exhibits, as follows, { all of which bespoke much originality i and careful preparation:—The Melbourne j Is Hosiery, Carter's' Golden Gift Tea, j Greiner jeweller, Drew jeweller, Veale's coffee, Bellringer Bros., Ingo Toothache Cure, "C" Corn Cure, Arnold George, The 8.K., D. Berry, Empire Picture Theatre, McNeill Grocer, Hawkins dyer, Taranaki Herald and Taranaki Daily News. Much amusement was also caused by the impersonation of a monkey (advertising Monkey Brand Soap), a miniature huntsman, a little boy of three years attired in the regulation huntsman's uni- . form and mounted on a tiny little black pony nine hands high; coster boys and Indians riding donkeys, a walking pillarbox, the original Topsy, fairies and l j 6quaws.
Mr. G. Tabor acted as chairman of the committee and Mr. Dempsey as secretary, and the committee was as follows: Messrs. Abbott, Avery, Box, Brooks, Bennett, Corkill, Carter, Dolby, Dineen, Elliot, Firth, Flanagan, Griffiths, Green, Hoffmann, Jones, Jonas, Lints, McLeod, Mills, Moon, Mcllroy, Parker, Sinclair, Smith, Short, Rev. S. d. Osborne, and Ven. Archdeacon Evans. Mr. F. C. Bellringer acted as marshal for the day, and performed his duties in a most satisfactory manner.
