Giving evidence before the Marconi Committee, Mr. King, secretary to the tost Office, recalled, declared "that the contract did not confer on Marconi a fragment of monopoly. The reason for the hurry was the danger lest thev should be forestalled. Where a longdistance station was already established it would be impossible to put another anywhere in tiie vicinity for longdistance wave lengths. The chairman read a letter from the president of the Federal Wireless Company in the United States, stating that the company was using the Poulsen system for constant communication between San Francisco and Honolulu by day and night
