OUR FORESTS.
THE QUESTION OF DEPLETION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Representatives from the Auckland Chamber of Commerce plnced before the Prime Minister yesterday the following resolution:—"That in the opinion of this conference the question of afforestation is of vital importance to the Dominion, and it urges upon the Government the necessity of making full and exhaustive Inquiry into the question' of the depletion of our forests and to consider the desirability of establishing a national school of forestry. Mr. Ma'ssey said he fully realised the importance of the question. One need only remember that the supply of kauri was practically exhausted to see the position, and a trip down the Main Trunk line would show how the forests were being depleted. Mr. Massey went on to say that he was at present trying to arrange for a commission of two experts to report, with a view to preserving the forests, and the Government realised that more would have to 'be done, first by the Government, secondly by local bodies, and lastly by-private individuals themselves. •
