ENTERTAINMENTS.

KM PIKE PICTURE PALACE . A complete change of programme ■will l>e shown at the Empire Picture Palace this evening when the chief feature will be a stirring war drama by the popular Kalem players entitled •'The Siege of Petersburg," a rousing two-reel drama of love and war. The central '"eatuve is He long mine driven by General Grant under the Confederate defence, the discovery of the scheme by a spy, and the dramatically disastrous defeat of the Northerners as they charge in through the "Crater" left by the explosion of the mine. Interwoven with the main plot is a charming Southern love story, culminating in the noble self-sacrifice of a Confederate officer. Supporting the star picture is a fine selection of the latest in the motion picture world, including the latest "Pathe Gazette" and a beautiful scenic entitled "Niagara Falls." The dramatic films are "Fates' Warning" (Rex), "The Great Diamond Robbery (Nat Pinkerton), and "The Pirates' Rock" (Ambrosio). The comics include "Friscot is Too Honest," •'Tweedledum Insures His Life," "Dupin's Picnic."

THEATRE ROYAL PICTURES. "The Great Circus Catastrophe" was again shown for the last occasion to an enthusiastic audience last evening. Owing to the Theatre being otherwise engaged there will be no pictures this evening, but a complete new programme will be shown to-morrow. WAITARA TO-NIGHT.

"The Great Circus Catastrophe" will be shown to a Waitara audience id St. John's Hall to-night.

'•OUR REGIMENT." "Our Regiment." to bo staged at the Theatre Royal to-night by the Stratford Amateur Dramatic Society, promises to be a greater success than at first anticipated. Benefiting by the performances at Eltham, Hawera and Stratford, the production has reached inore than the average amateur standard. The east of characters is very strong and includes Captain Stevens, who has taken part in amateur theatricals for some years. The poster, representing an officer in mess uniform, was the work of Captain Stevens, and rumour has it. that his acting is superior to his poster work. Captain and Mrs. Lampen have acted together before in the same piece at Wellington, consequently, thev are "quite at home" in their parts. The remaining characters are well sustained, and the staging lis quite a feature of the performance. The proceeds of the entertainment arc to be devoted to the Territorial Sports Club and the funds of the Stratford Amateur Dramatic C'impny do not benefit at all hv the company's visit to New Plymouth, therefore it behoves the New Plymouth public to reward the Stratford Society's generosity with a packed house, as the Stratford people will be doing next week. At the conclusion of the production the squad going to f'liristchureli will give an exhibition of rifle and physical exercises. As the night will be a. military one, all who have uniforms are requested to wear them. We would like to remind our render*, that the doors open at 7.30, when the Regimental Rand will commence operations bv giving .a few selections in front of the Theatre.
